Grapefruit comes originally from Asia. The first traces were found in Malaysia, and it was also grown in China at least 4000 years ago. It was introduced to Europe in the 17th century, and more specifically in Spain, but has never really been eaten widescale. Nowadays, it is mainly grown in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and China. Grapefruit is often confused with pomelo, a hybrid resulting from crossing grapefruit with orange. You can find it at your greengrocers all year round as it is grown in several regions around the world.
Grapefruit powder is obtained from drying and grinding grapefruit peel. Like many other citrus fruit powders grapefruit powder is a staple in any kitchen! It has all the aromas of grapefruit and is easy to use!
Sprinkle it over a dish, in a drink, over your cakes and pastries, adding a new touch to your daily dishes. It is perfect for replacing fresh citrus fruits when you don’t have one handy when you’re cooking and can be used in unusual ways which would not have been possible with fresh fruit.
