Kikaijima, known as Japan’s “island of sesame,” is the country’s top producer of domestic white sesame.
Located south of Kagoshima, the island’s mineral-rich soil produces small, slightly grayish sesame seeds full of flavor and sweetness. After harvest, the seeds are sun-dried for about a month, transforming the island into a charming “Sesame Street.”
These island grown sesame seeds are roasted to a rich, fragrant finish using Wadaman’s techniques, then blended with Naruto wakame seaweed for a delicious furikake topping.
