A deliciously smooth and creamy cheese, Godminster’s Heart-Shaped Vintage Organic Cheddar is a multi-award-winning organic cheese, created in the heart of Somerset and enrobed in our distinctive burgundy wax for the perfect Valentine’s gift for partners and loved ones.

This deliciously melt-in-the-mouth cheddar cheese is made to a traditional 90-year-old recipe and matured for up to 12 months, at which point we select the very best cheese to be made into one of our award-winning truckles. Our heart-shaped cheese has a rich depth of flavour with a smooth texture that’s irresistibly moreish and will m ake you come back for more!

We’re delighted to say that our Heart-Shaped Vintage Organic Cheddar was named The Nation’s Favourite Organic Product in 2019 at the BOOM Awards hosted by the Soil Association, all thanks to votes from the general public!

Our heart-shaped cheese comes packaged in an attractive gift box made from recycled cardboard that is also recyclable. The wax isn’t recyclable yet but we’re working on it!

All of our heart-shaped cheeses are made using pasteurised milk and they are certified organic by the Soil Association. The History of Heart-Shaped Cheese – Neufchatel, Godminster, and beyond

Whilst our heart-shaped cheeses are made from the signature, smooth and creamy Godminster cheddar, the concept of a heart shaped cheese product is one that has over 500 years behind it, with the story beginning in Normandy, and with a lesser known, soft-white, heart-shaped french cheese known as Neufchatel.

The tradition of molding Neufchatel cheese into its famous heart shape actually came during the Hundred Years War, wherein some of the female occupants of the small village of the same name, began to fall in love with their English occupiers! Being the home and the namesake of this rich and creamy cheese, the maidens of Neufchatel naturally begin to use the cheese as gifts, fashioning them into heart shaped gifts to give to their loves.

In 2013, the Godminster team started to create our own version of the heart-shaped soft cheese with our Heart-Shaped Traditional Organic Brie. This soft white-rind cheese took home plenty of gold medals at cheese competitions both at home and internationally before being retired in 2018.

Our Heart-Shaped Vintage Organic Cheddar might be slightly different from this heart shaped cheese, but we carry these romantic roots into our own heart-shaped cheese products to this day, and recommend them greatly to buy as the perfect gift for a loved one!
