Epoisse Berthaut 250g in a wooden box.

Epoisse cheese is made in Burgundy, France. It is a pungent, creamy soft paste cows milk cheese (pasteurised), with a surprisingly mellow flavour. It’s washed with Marc de Bourgogne brandy (a local grape spirit) during the making process.

Époisses was granted CDO (Controlled Designation of Origin) in 1991 then PDO in 1996.

It is named after the village of Epoisses, located in the East of France.

Tasting suggestions:

Epoisse can be served as part of a cheese platter (sometimes with a spoon due to its softness) or oven-baked before being served with fresh bread.

Epoisses cheese is not only an excellent addition to a cheeseboard but also lends itself to a wide variety of hot and cold dishes.

Pairings:

Opt for a Gevrey-Chambertin or Morey-Saint-Denis
Choose a dry white wine, such as a Meursault or Chablis Grand Cru
